About
Editorial Policy: Independence, Sources and Corrections
How EUDR Guide keeps its EUDR guide independent, which official sources it accepts for Regulation (EU) 2023/1115, and how it corrects and dates errors.
Summary
EUDR Guide publishes its guide to the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR), Regulation (EU) 2023/1115 as amended, under three commitments: editorial independence, facts from named primary sources, and dated corrections.
This policy sets out how each commitment is applied, and every page is published under the byline "EUDR Guide Editorial Team".
The rules below cover independence from authorities, schemes and providers, the accepted sources, the labels for binding rules, guidance and proposals, the correction rule, the update triggers and the topics the guide leaves out. Readers who want the rules rather than the policy can start with the guide to the EU Deforestation Regulation.
Is EUDR Guide Independent of Authorities, Certification Schemes and Providers?
Yes: EUDR Guide is not affiliated with the European Commission, any competent authority or any certification scheme, and no company pays for a mention, a ranking or a placement.
The site earns money by matching operators, traders and non-EU suppliers with independent providers and suppliers, and through supplier enquiries. That income is kept apart from editorial decisions: no lead partner has been chosen, no company is named as a partner, and no vendor is named, ranked or linked.
Nothing beyond the EUDR Information System is mandatory. Software, consultants and certification are never required: the system is free of charge (Article 18(1) of Implementing Regulation (EU) 2024/3084), and responsibility stays with the operator (Articles 4(3) and 6(1) of Regulation (EU) 2023/1115). No EUDR certificate exists, because the legal output is the due diligence statement reference number or the simplified declaration identifier, and as of 24 October 2026 no EU list of approved schemes or providers exists. What a scheme can prove is explained under certification and the EUDR.
Sources: Regulation (EU) 2023/1115, Commission Guidance and National Law
A fact appears on EUDR Guide only when a primary source holds it: the act and its amendments on EUR-Lex and in the Official Journal, the Commission's EUDR pages and guidance, national gazettes and competent authorities, and FAO data where the Commission relies on it.
Table 1. Sources EUDR Guide accepts for EUDR facts
| Source | Used for | Instrument and version |
|---|---|---|
| EUR-Lex and the Official Journal (Publications Office) | The act, amendments, articles, annexes, dates | Regulation (EU) 2023/1115; Regulations (EU) 2024/3234 and 2025/2650; Delegated Regulation (EU) 2026/2102; consolidated text 02023R1115-20260918 |
| Implementing acts (EUR-Lex) | Information system, country list | Implementing Regulation (EU) 2024/3084 as amended by Implementing Regulation (EU) 2026/1565; Implementing Regulation (EU) 2025/1093 |
| European Commission EUDR pages | Guidance, FAQ, system notices | EUDR guidance as Guidance C/2026/3896 (third edition, OJ C, 2026-07-20) and FAQ Version 5 (April 2026), both non-binding |
| National gazettes, parliaments and competent authorities | National implementing and penalty laws, authorities | Dated "as of" each check; the Commission list of authorities notified under Article 14(2) supplies names only |
| FAO | Forest data the Commission relies on | FAO FRA 2020 data in the benchmarking methodology SWD(2025) 129 final; FAO's classification of bamboo as a non-wood forest product, as cited in FAQ Version 5, 2.12 |
| Certification scheme owners | Scheme facts | Only what the scheme proves under the EUDR |
Secondary reports (news, consultancies, NGOs, providers) point to sources; they are never the source of a fact on this site.
The act decides, and the Commission's Guidance and FAQ explain it without binding anyone (Article 15(5) of Regulation (EU) 2023/1115, as amended by Regulation (EU) 2025/2650). A statement that cannot be matched to a primary source, with its instrument and the date it was checked, is not published.
How Are Rules, Guidance, Proposals and Postponed Dates Labelled?
Every statement carries its legal weight: binding rules are cited by article and instrument, Commission guidance and the FAQ are labelled non-binding, proposals are labelled "proposed" with their stage and date, and replaced dates appear only as dated history.
Table 2. How statements are labelled
| Label | Used for | Example (dated) |
|---|---|---|
| Binding rule | Articles of the act and its implementing or delegated acts | "Articles 3 to 13 ... apply from 30 December 2026" (Article 38(2)) |
| Non-binding guidance | Commission Guidance and FAQ | Guidance C/2026/3896 and FAQ Version 5 (April 2026): "the Commission considers" |
| Proposed | Commission proposals and national bills, with stage and date | French Guiana exclusion proposed in COM(2026) 661 of 2026-09-10 (see Where the EUDR Applies); Germany: government bill BT-Drs. 21/8278 of 2026-09-30, first reading 2026-10-08 (see EUDR in Germany) |
| History | Dates replaced by an amendment | 30 December 2024 (original) and 30 December 2025 (Regulation (EU) 2024/3234), both replaced; see every EUDR postponement |
| No proposal | Statements that nothing is pending | No further delay proposed as of 2026-10-24; the 2026 review COM(2026) 191 of 2026-05-04 brought no legislative proposal |
A date is always shown with its scope. The deferred date of 30 June 2027 applies to operators that are natural persons or micro or small undertakings established as such by 31 December 2024 (Article 38(3)), while products in the Annex to Regulation (EU) No 995/2010 apply from 30 December 2026. Readers can check every date against the dates in force.
How Does EUDR Guide Correct Errors?
When a fact on EUDR Guide is wrong, the page is corrected and the correction is dated on that page. Each page also shows the date it was last checked.
Readers report an error to editorial@eudrguide.com, naming the page and the statement concerned. No response time is promised. The same editorial address is on the page to contact EUDR Guide.
When Are EUDR Pages Rechecked After Amendments, Guidance, Country-List or Information System Changes?
Every page shows the date it was last checked, and pages are rechecked whenever one of five sources changes: the EUDR itself, the country list, the Commission guidance or FAQ, a national law, or the EUDR Information System.
Table 3. What triggers a recheck
| Trigger | Source watched | Most recent instance (as of 2026-10-24) |
|---|---|---|
| Amendment of the EUDR | Official Journal, EUR-Lex | Delegated Regulation (EU) 2026/2102, in force 2026-09-18 |
| Country-list review | Implementing Regulation (EU) 2025/1093 and its amendments; the country list | In force 2025-05-26; no amending or replacing act adopted as of 2026-10-24 |
| Commission guidance or FAQ update | Commission EUDR pages, OJ C | Guidance C/2026/3896, OJ C 2026-07-20; FAQ Version 5 (April 2026) |
| National law change | Gazettes, parliaments, authorities | Germany: bill BT-Drs. 21/8278 of 2026-09-30 |
| Information-system release | Implementing Regulation (EU) 2024/3084 as amended, Commission notices; the EUDR Information System | Implementing Regulation (EU) 2026/1565, in force 2026-07-17 |
National law changes are dated "as of" the day of the check.
What Does EUDR Guide Not Publish?
EUDR Guide does not publish legal advice for an individual case, unverified claims, vendor names or rankings, or rules of other regimes.
- Legal advice: responsibility stays with the operator (Articles 4(3) and 6(1) of Regulation (EU) 2023/1115).
- Unverified claims: an item that no primary source confirms is not stated.
- Vendors: no provider is named, ranked or linked.
- Other regimes: the UK Forest Risk Commodities scheme and US FOREST Act proposals are out, and CSRD, CSDDD, LkSG, the Forced Labour Regulation and CBAM get one sentence at most, where relevant.
- Consumer and brand questions about individual products.
Every fact on this site is checked against EUR-Lex and Commission sources; see our methodology and fact-checking.
This guide explains the rules; it is not legal advice for an individual case.
How Does This Policy Connect to the Methodology, About and Privacy Pages?
Three pages complete this policy: the methodology for how facts are checked, the about page for funding, and the privacy policy for report data.
How Are Facts Checked Against These Sources?
Each fact is matched to the source and version in Table 1 and recorded with the date it was checked. The fact-checking methodology describes the procedure.
Where Are Funding and the Legal-Advice Limit Explained?
The about page sets out how EUDR Guide is funded and why it is not legal advice. Read About EUDR Guide for both.
How Is Personal Data in an Error Report Handled?
An error report sent to the editorial address is personal data, and the privacy policy explains how it is kept. The privacy policy covers reports and forms.
